Project Plan

Our Nonprofit's Unwavering Commitment to Animal Welfare and Environmental Stewardship. The Safe Barn is a nonprofit not yet with 501c3 status who plans on focusing on 3 key areas: Sanctuary, Rescue and Rehabilitation, and Responsible Ownership and Environmental Education. We have noticed a huge oversight in the animal welfare community in Non-northern areas of the North Texas region and even those who attempt to help are limited to specific regions or limits imposed by the lack of help in the Animal Welfare community. Local Animal shelters are often forced to euthanize when they reach capacity, not for the lack of care but the lack of shelters to take these animals in and the lack of funding in which they receive from the public, local and federal government. These shelters are often restricted by the city they serve and do not venture into other regions/cities which leaves many animals with different levels of care.
With that in mind, The Safe Barn is choosing to have larger limits without the restriction of county or city. When it comes to the rescue portion, the restrictions are even lighter to simply Texas regions that have animals that are in danger. For our Education portion, we hope to not limit it to solely pet owners but open it to people who have doubts about Animal welfare advocacy and how the environment affects animal populations and their safety.
Our Main goal for The Safe Barn is to make sure that every animal we come across is taken care of with every possible resource we have. Secondary goals to this main one are: 1. Lowering the stress on local animal shelters by ensuring a place animals can go if they don’t meet outlined time limits within the shelter. 2. Educating people on responsible pet ownership as well as how we have an affect on our ecosystem from animals we see consistently to those we do not.
To ensure we meet all of our goals, we have outlined our phase structure which we plan to follow closely. These phases are also the order in which we will enact each of our phases which also double as projects. The total estimated cost for all four phases is $1,444,400, and the project is expected to be completed within 9 years.
Phase 1: Beginning Phase - "Animal Shelter" This initial phase will focus on acquiring and preparing the land, building basic enclosures for various animals, and establishing the organization's main programs of adoptions and rehoming. The estimated total cost is $219,392, and it is expected to take 2 years to complete.
Phases 2 and 3: Intermediate Phases I and II - "Animal Sanctuary" and "Animal Rescue" These intermediate phases will involve intaking permanent animal inhabitants, preparing for aquatic animals, equipping the center with transport vehicles, gathering volunteers for rescue missions, and constructing venues and cabins. The estimated total cost for these phases is $905,000, and they are expected to take 5 years to complete.
Phase 4: Final Phase - "Education Barn" The final phase will focus on educational programs and transitioning to eco-friendly energy sources. The estimated total cost for this phase is $320,000, and it is expected to take 2 years to complete.
As we move forward past phase 4, we hope that we can measure our impact via statistical analysis and people who learned from what we would have accomplished. We would “clean” up the streets and give strays a permanent home. We would be a part of a community that cares for animals. We would give people a place to go when they want to understand specifics about animals or even just have an event where they learn to coexist with animals in more natural habitats. We would limit our own and those we partner with impact on the environment. People who are first time owners have a resource they can rely on to help them understand what it means to take care of animals as well as advocate for their animals’ safety and their own.
We cannot say we are the first to do this, not even close but a “cog” in the “wheel” of animal welfare organizations. On a large scale, The Best Friends Animal Society is a great example of what we hope to accomplish however more interpersonally. We hope to reach those The Best Friends Animal Society may not be able to do as they are on such a large scale. On a local scale, The Alveus Sanctuary, a nonprofit Animal Sanctuary in San Antonio, is similar in what we hope to accomplish because of their Animal Sanctuary status. They help animals around the area as well as education that reaches many people who cannot even visit Alveus through their livestreams. While similar in nature, these places are fundamentally different in certain aspects such as: scale, animals focused on, and main goal. What we propose is the perfect combination of these places while remaining unique in what scale, animals we focus on, and our main goal.
